Even the novice can take away something from the experience of fishing on Anna Maria Island. If you are thinking that your vacation could use some quality down time, look to Fun and More Rentals for some fishing gear.
We have tackled the most common questions and have baited their answers in for your reading pleasure...
What kind of fishing gear do you carry?
- At Fun and More Rentals, we provide a basic fishing rod with hook included. Styles and Brand names may vary, but it is mainly just a basic spinning rod.
Do you need a license to fish?
- Yes. If you plan to fish anywhere on or off the island, you will need to purchase a temporary license to fish. These can be obtained at the Anna Maria City Pier located at the north end of the island.
- "A fishing license is required to attempt to take fish. If you cast your line, catch nothing, catch and release, or catch and keep and you are not a member of one the groups listed below; you need a license. A saltwater fishing license is also required to attempt to take any native or nonnative marine organisms, such as crabs, lobsters, and marine plants." (myfwc.com)
Who is Exempt from Purchasing a Fishing License in Florida?

Riding around in a golf cart while having the warm Florida sun shine on your skin as you drive down to Pine Ave for some delicious treats is the essence of the Anna Maria Island experience. Take your golf cart rental down to the pier and stop by Bayfront Park to catch some rays as you wade around in the warm water. If this is the experience you long for while on your Anna Maria Island vacation; make sure to find out how to rent the most popular means of transportation available on our small island.
There are a few different options for setting up an Anna Maria Island golf cart rental.
You can call Fun and More Rentals directly
You can send us an e-mail request
You can stop by to set-up your rental
Our office is open from 9am to 5pm every day of the week. This means that any form of rental set-up can be offered to you every day of the week.We do suggest calling the office directly; given that it is the most immediate and direct way to set up a rental.
When setting up an Anna Maria Island golf cart rental we will ask you for some information for our waiver paperwork. These details are crucial for a golf cart rental given that these are street legal vehicles and we need to make sure they are being taken care of while in your possession.
What we need....
- Renter & any driver must be 25 years of age or older (it’s just like renting a car)
Whenever we set up a rental of one of our golf carts, we can usually expect a laundry list of questions about renting golf carts on Anna Maria Island and where to go with said golf carts. These questions always seem to come from those who may not be all that familiar with the island and the policies for street legal golf cart rentals.
Here are our most common questions and the answers that may provide you with some additional knowledge of rental golf cart practices around Anna Maria, Holmes Beach, and Bradenton Beach
Do you have a map of the island?
- Yes we do. In fact, Fun and More Rentals will soon be releasing their very own Anna Maria Island map filled with all the information you may need to get around the island by golf cart.
What roads can we or can we not ride on?
- Given that these are considered to be “low speed vehicles” they do not reach past 25mph. That means any of the roads labeled at 35mph are to be avoided. There are plenty of small back roads with much better sights to see by golf cart so skipping the traffic actually benefits everyone. Specific roads include most roads in the city of Anna Maria (Pine Ave, N Bay Blvd, S Bay blvd, and any of the floral/tree named roads), Holmes blvd, 2nd Ave, 6th ave, and so on. When you rent from us, we will provide a detailed map of what roads are and are not designated for golf cart usage.
What about driving at night?
- You are most certainly allowed to drive at night as long as you keep the lights on bright and follow all traffic laws.
How far will it last?
- On a full battery charge, the golf carts will last about 25 to 35 miles. Given that Anna Maria Island is roughly 7 to 7.5 miles long, you can enjoy your golf cart for most of the day without worrying about heading home to charge it. We suggest charging your vehicle whenever you can and especially overnight.
How do you charge it?
- These vehicles will plug into any basic three-pronged outlet. Sometimes the exterior outlets on the vacation homes may not be the best to use, so we advise finding multiple outlets to check and make sure when you are charging it that it is actually working.
Can you stand on the golf cart?
- Unfortunately we cannot permit anyone to stand on, ride on top, or any other form of ‘joy-riding’ on these vehicles. Don't worry, just being able to ride with the doors open will be exciting enough.
Will a 4 passenger seat 5 people?
- Given that these vehicles are considered to be similar to cars with street laws, only 4 people can ride in the 4 passenger golf cart and only 6 people can ride in the 6 passenger golf cart. Each person must be belted in at all times.
What about baby seats? Can we use them on the golf cart?
- You can most certainly use a baby seat on the golf cart. As long as the seat is safely belted in, your child will be safe to ride!
Can my son drive it?
- If your son is over the age of 25, licensed, and insured driver he most certainly can. If he is any younger than 25, you will have to be the driver.
What does it mean to be a “street legal vehicle”?
- A ‘street legal’ vehicle is a vehicle that follows all the same laws that you would in a regular moving vehicle, such as a car. These golf carts are permitted to use the main roads, so they are expected to follow the same laws to insure the driver and passengers safety. Please keep this in mind when renting and using one of the golf carts as the police will be keeping an eye out!
Can we rent one in Longboat Key?
- Unfortunately for those staying in Longboat Key, we cannot provide golf cart rentals in that city given that they are not permitted down there. We do provide these vehicles for all over Anna Maria Island, so if you are visiting for the day be sure to contact us and see about a daily golf cart rental.
